Performance Evaluation
2007 8th Grade
Congratulations on an EXCELLENT performance!!!!! I'm so proud of you! Your performance etiquette was outstanding. Remember, the purpose of Performance Evaluation is to learn what we can do even better. As great musicians, we are always working to improve our skills. Below, are some comments that will help us prepare for our next concert.
Performance Judges' comments:
- Ladies' tone is pure and rich. Guys, try to match that quality.
- Keep ringing and moving tone to avoid going flat.
- Good rhythmic energy.
- "Oo" vowel was very nice. Watch dipthongs.
- Observe dynamics.
- Nice ritardando in the first song. Sing more legato. Careful not to push at the crescendo.
- Good looking group! Have more fun when you sing. Share with your audience.
- You have several great places, but tone is inconsistent. Keep your energy flowing so that tone doesn't sag. Guys, don't let tone get weighty especially on higher pitches.
- Don't let long tones sink at phrase end. Many good places. Be consistent.
- Work to make each section sound like one voice through vowel blending and good pitch.
- A little more space on "while" and "sky." Great "k" on "rock." You are getting placement on many sounds. Keep working for same excellence in all places.
- Good musical ideas coming through.
- Great looking group with much potential. I enjoyed your performance.
- Very nice opening! Continue to work for space. Open sound will make you sound more mature. Men, work for a relaxed sound.
- Careful not to push, men. Breath support will help with intonation. Mare sure all pitches are accurate.
- Rhythm was precise! Continue to work on attacks and releases.
- Listen to other parts to make sure they are all even. Harmony is what makes things interesting.
- Be more consistent with consonants. Some very nice vowel work. Loved your round "to."
- Make the "hushed" section even softer. As you grow as musicians, think about doing more with shaping phrases.
- Thank you for your focus and attention. You are on the right track for success. BRAVO!
- Nice to see so many boys. You are fabulous. Keep singing!

Below, are some comments that will help us prepare for our next concert.
Performance Judges' comments:
- Continue to work towards a resonant and focused sound. Strive for a free tone that is vibrant.
- You had some tuning issues, but you also had some really nice moments.
- Great releases. Nice energy.
- All parts need to be even.
- Great final consonants! Final "peace" - YES!!! I liked your "God." Vowels can still be taller.
- Give more extreme contrast in dynamics.
- Be sensitive to the text so the meaning and mood of the piece come across.
- Good potential in tonal concept. I'd love to hear more ring in your tone.
- Think the pitch before singing.
- Be sure to give notes their full value to the end of the measure.
- Vowels need to be purer throughout.
- "Rhythm of Life" has lots of words. Be sure to use your lips, teeth, and tongue to articulate.
- You look great, very formal and professional. I'm impressed with your stage presence.
- You are not forcing your tone. Sometimes the tone gets weighty in the guys voices where you sing louder. Use your pure vowels and tune closer to have an even more beautiful quality.
- Be careful on fast passages that you get every pitch centered. Support tone for overall better pitch contrast.
- Remember accuracy in every voice is critical to overall success.
- Keep working for consistent vowel purity and good shaping and placement. Good strong consonants are always important especially with songs with fast moving text. You've done a lot. Take it further.
- Phrases need more shaping, using more inflection to help shaping of words within line.
- A good overall performance! Keep working to take it even further.

- Work for more contrast in dynamics.
- You have had some great training. Continue to build on this. Keep singing!
- Overall, your tone is very good and appropriate. Keep up the good work!
- Rhythm was precise, but sometimes lacking energy.
- Work to create good balance.
- Very attentive to conductor. Great job!
- You are doing some nice work. Tone is never forced or over sung.
- Your work with vowels helps energize the sound and give it resonance.
- A very fine group which has been taught well.
