Performance Evaluation

Palmer's choirs are working dilligently to prepare for our performance evaluation.  Each student is required to stay after school for a workshop and attend the field trip to perform.  Please make note of the following dates and download the itinerary for your child's class.  We will not be able to attend without adequate chaperones.

6th grade Chorus -

• Students must stay after school on Monday, March 7th.  Parents should be in the theater at 6:00 to watch us perform our 2 songs. 
• 6th grade field trip is on Monday, March 14th.  Parents will pick up their children from Palmer at 5:45 PM.

7th grade Chorus -

• Students must stay after school on Tuesday, March 8th.  Parents should be in the theater at 6:00 to watch us perform our 2 songs. 
• 67grade field trip is on Tuesday, March 15th.  Parents will pick up their children from Palmer at 6:00 PM.

All State Chorus Auditions

Students who have been selected and accepted the challege of auditioning for Georgia's All State Choir may take advantage of the following study tools in preparing for the audition.

The audition includes a solo.  I have given each student a cd of the piano accompaniment to practice with and use for the actual audition.  Below, I have linked a recording of each song being sung.  Please be warned that the sad, old choir teacher's voice sounds less than ideal.  The students will do a MUCH better job on these solos, I assure  you.

Middle Men Workshop

All male chorus students are required to stay after school on Thursday, September 16th for a choral workshop.  Mr. Jay Champion will be our special guest and will instruct the boys on how the voice changes during middle school.  This will be tons of fun and a great experience for the boys to work together to accomplish a great sound.  As a reward for staying after school and working hard, I will feed the boys FREE pizza!!!

Disney Parent Meeting

Thursday, September 9th at 7:00 PM, the music faculty will conduct a meeting for 8th grade parents.  At this meeting, we will present the details of our spring trip to perform at Disney World.  Please plan to attend this meeting, even if you are not sure if your child will attend the trip.  We have several bits of exciting news to share with you at this meeting.  I hope to see you Thursday night at 7:00 in the theater!

I sent home information today about purchasing uniforms for Palmer's music ensembles.  If your child misplaced it, please download a copy below.  I must have a form returned from every child whether or not you are purchasing one.  Please let me know if this poses a financial hardship for your family.

Scales

I have begun teaching the students how to sing major, minor and chromatic scales.  Please follow the links below for practice.

Major Scale

Minor Scale - You will be able to hear a minor scale played, but beware.  I have taught you to sing the minor scale starting on LA.  This website starts the minor scale on DO.  Both ways are correct, but I think it's easier to start on LA as I've taught you to do.

Chromatic Scale

Here's an example of me singing the scales starting on Middle C.  The students do this so much better than I do.  Please don't laugh. :)
