GLAD YOU ARE HERE

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to the 2010-11 school year and our reading class.  I am excited to be back in the reading classroom and working with all of you this year.

My name is Cathy Fearing and this is my ninth year at Palmer Middle School.  In that time I have taught special education reading, math, language arts, taught in the EBD self-contained classroom, been the graduation coach and I taught seventh grade literacy last year.  I have a bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio State, a master’s in school counseling from the University of Dayton, and just got my ED.S in curriculum and instruction this past summer from Lincoln Memorial.

Just a few key notes as we begin the year:

  • As our reading class is specialized to meet your child’s needs and I teach all three grades, my blog will only reflect the very basic information and not specific assignments.
  • Please check your child’s agenda to see what work they have assigned and for due dates.
  • The easiest way to contact me is via e-mail at Cathy.Fearing@cobbk12.org
  • Your child will have homework every night and it is the same assignment for the whole year.  Please read for at least 15 minutes and record all of this information on your log.  Log will be provided on the first day of school.
  • There may be other additional assignments for homework and again this information will be recorded in your child’s agenda.
  • Progress reports will be sent home at the four and a half week mark and with report cards at the nine week mark.
  • If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
  • Also, I do not have a homeroom this year and as such I will not be getting tissues and hand sanitizer.  So, if you feel really sorry for me, please send in a couple of boxes of tissues and/or hand sanitizer.  Thanks
  • We will work on a variety of reading skills this year including (but not limited to) fluency, comprehension, decoding, vocabulary, predictions and novel studies.
