Rachel Waters

Welcome!

       Welcome to 8th grade! 

       My name is Rachel Waters and this is my 5th year teaching at Palmer Middle School!  I have loved being a Palmer Panther and watching our students grow from the day they enter as 6th graders, to the day they leave us as rising Freshman.  I have been married 3 years this October and I love football in the fall and going to the beach in the summer!  As you will get to see as the games begin... I LOVE TENNESSEE FOOTBALL:)  Go Vols!  

       This year is exciting and full of new adventures for our 8th graders!  High school is right around the corner and by the time we say goodbye in May you will be prepared to show off all of your skills!  8th grade math moves quickly and it is important to remain on top of all assignments and review your notebooks nightly.  On this blog you will find our daily assignments, test/quiz dates and other useful information!  Any information such as presentations we may use in class will be linked to the blog when available.  Please check back daily for updates and attachments.

Math 8- Today we collected the Cricket Task, completed our weekly homework check and practiced finding an equation when given two points.

HW- Bring a regular size candy bar on Tuesday!

Advanced Math 8- Today we collected the Heartbeat Task, collected our POW and found the equations of a line when given two points.  We practiced in our worktext on pgs.391 & 392.

HW- Complete practice if not completed in class & bring in an individually wrapped cookie on Tuesday!

Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems and WT p.391 & p.392.  We also completed our Cricket Task in class.

Advanced Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Probelms and collected our standard form practice.  We also collected our data for our Heartbeats Task.

Math 8- Today we completed the Coach practice from yesterday and turned in our problem solving practice from last night.  We also learned how to find the equations of a line when given two points. 

HW- Worktext p.391 #5-7 and p.392 #3-8

Advanced Math 8- Today we checked our point- slope practice from last night and looked at how arithmetic sequences relate to linear equations.  We can now write an equations in slope- intercept form which represents an arithmetic sequence.  We also completed a standard form review.

HW- Complete standard form review & POW due Friday

Tuesday January 24, 2012

Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems and our problem solving homework from last night.  We also used whiteboards to practice writing the equation when given a word problem.  We worked in the Coach books to practice CRCT problems regarding linear equations.

HW- Complete the Application Practice

Advanced Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems and checked our worktext practice from last night.  We also practiced point- slope form in class.

HW- Complete the practice problems not finished in class, POW due Friday!

Math 8- We returned graded papers as well as worked on problem solving with slope-intercept form.

HW- Complete problem solving practice from class.

Advanced Math 8- We worked with the point slope form today.  We can now create slope- intercept form when given a point and slope. 

HW- Worktext p. 382 #1-9, 384 #1-6, 394 #1-6 and 395 #1-15 & POW due Friday!

Math 8- Today we took our Slope Quiz and completed our slope-intercept form review.

HW- Have an awesome weekend!  If you did not finish the coloring review please bring it in Monday!

Advanced Math 8- Today we handed back our quizzes and collected POWs.  We also looked at problem solving strategies we can use- creating a table, graphing, defining the rqate of change and looking at key terms.

Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems, completed and turned in a slope review and started their standard form coloring practice.  This will be completed tomorrow after the quiz.

Advanced Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems, completed our slope quiz and started working on slope and slope- intercept form application problems.

Math 8- Today we did not have 1st period due to testing, however 2nd and 6th continued to practice converting equations from standard form to slope- intercept form.

HW- Complete practice started in class, Slope quiz moved to Friday!

Advanced Math 8- Today we handed back our Mouse and Cheese POWs and practiced finding the equation of a line when given the graph.  We used whiteboards to practice this new skill and review finding slope when given two points, graphing lines which have an undefined and zero slope as well as practicing converting equations from standard form to slope- intercept form.

HW- Slope quiz tomorrow and POW due Friday!

Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems and returned our homework checks and Unit 5 Are You Ready.  Please turn in your Are You Ready if not already turned in.  We also continued practicing with converting from standard form to slope-intercept form and graphing.

Advanced Math 8- Today we checked our Palmer Panther Problems and picked up our POW.  3rd period completed a placemat review on slope for our quiz on Thursday.
