Students will create a book that reflects their 6th grade experience at Palmer Middle School.
Creativity is the key...along with identifying parts of speech.
Final assessments will be completed and reading data will be collected.

CRCT Preparation
Well, Spring Break is over and it now it is time to prepare for the CRCT. Our warm-up activities this week will focus on identifying the eight parts of speech, types of sentences, forms of sentences and punctuation.
Also, we will complete our Response to Literature project and explore various reading strategies that will help us to gain comprehension of reading material.

Response to Literature - Oral Traditions (Folk Tales)
This week, we will begin to read the first of four folk tales that we will analyze and identify the literary elements in the story.
Continuing with our review of grammar, our goal is to be able to identify the eight parts of speech in our warm-up questions. We will review subordinating conjunctions and complex sentences.

"Characterization" - Literary element
After using our "Anticipation Guide" to determine what we think would happen before we read the story, we will now re-visit the story "Eleven" to find out if we were correct in our predictions.
Also, on Monday we will have a quiz on how to correctly use "Good" and "Well" and "Bad" and "Badly"
During this week, we will focus on "setting" and "theme."

Response to Literature - continued
Continuing with our Response to Literature unit, we will focus on each element of literary. This week the focus will be "Characterization."
We will explore reading strategies that will help us in our ability to comprehend what we have read
Finally, we will continue with our review and practice on the parts of speech.

Introduction to Response to Literature
During this week, we will begin a new unit, "Response to Literature." We will "unpack the standards" that relate to this unit and discuss the elements of literature.
In addition, we will be practicing reading strategies that will help us to understand what we read.
CRCT practice and review will also be a part of our lesson for the week
