Week 19 Notes:  ind cl  ss dec    Make the sentence complex by adding a subordinating conj like:  since, because, if, when, although.  Be sure to use a comma if the subordinate clause is at the beginning of the sentence.  Make the sentence compound by adding a coordinating conj like: FANBOYS  and/but/ so/or/ etc.   Capitalize and punctuate

Complex sentences use subordinating conjunctions such as:  because, since, when, if, as, since

Compound sentences use coordinating conjunctions such as:  for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

Different types of figurative langauge:  Simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, idiom 

Example of a simile: The Smiths often hike in Yosemite National Park even though it is as hot as the sun there!

Different types of brushstrokes:  participle, appositive, adjective out of order

Example of appositive:  The Smiths, a family of five, often hike in Yosemite National Park.
