Unit 4 Inventions and Indians

1-11

This unit will cover the Yazoo Land Frud and Indian Removal and will last approximately two weeks. Unit notes were distributed in all classes today and are posted below. Notes should be completed before coming to class Friday.

1-17

Students in all classes are working on the Yazzo Fraud mapwork which is due end of class today for AC classes and end of class Wednesday for on level classes. Wednesday are short classes due to the writing assessment. Thursday and Friday all classes will be in the computer lab working on the unit project posted below.

1-18

AC classes turned in the Yazoo mapwork today. We will be in the technology lab for the next two days working on letters. Homework: Students should brainstorm ideas and complete a roughdraft on the Letter to a President assignment. We will start typing them tomorrow.

On level: Students should finish the mapwork before class Thursday.

All classes: There will be a quiz on the unit notes this Friday. 

1-24

All classes are completeing the Indian removal technology project. We will be back in the classroom tomorrow. Homework: If students have not completed a portion of the project they should do so tonight if they have access to the appropriate technology at home. It will not be counted late if students print at school tomorrow.

1-26

All classes are working on vocabulary/event definitions for the Civil war unit.

Homework: Periods 1,2,3 should complete before Friday the terms through Dred Scott Case. Periods 5 and 6 shold finish all terms before Friday.

Unit 3: Government

Monday Oct 31 (Happy Halloween)

We started our new unit on Federal, state, and local government today. All classes began a constitutional search which will be finished and discussed Tuesday. This exercise can be accomplished with a copy of the constitution.

We will concentrate on the Federal government for about a week before moving to a more detailed study of Georgia's government.

Wednesday Nov 2

All classes took notes from the overhead projector (federalism).We will finish taking and discussing this material Wednesday. Students should begin reviewing this material immediately. This unit on government is very detailed and students need to review the notes and vocabulary on a regular basis. A list of unit vocabulary as well as note section 1 are listed below.

Friday Nov 4

Students worked on the Jimmy Carter Bio Plaque in class today. The instructions are below and materials were distributed in class. This is due in final form beginning of class Wednesday (Students are off Tuesday for a teacher workday).

Students in all classes are continuing to work on the Jimmy Carter project. It is due beginning of class Wednesday.

All classes: Jimmy carter project grades should be posted soon.

AC classes completed an analysis of a 1st amendment case concerning free speech. We will start notes on state government on Friday (posted below). There was no written homework assignment for Friday.

On level classes took an open note quiz (10 questions) on the federalism notes posted on Nov 2. We also watched a short film on the Bill of Rights called "Future Fright". We will begin our note taking on state government Friday (posted below). there was no written homework assignment for Friday.

Monday Nov 14

All classes re-wrote the preamble to the Ga. state constitution today.. Students should complete this assignment before class Tuesday if they have not finished as it will be collected for a grade.

 Thursday Nov 17

AC classes used the governor's budget website to gather information and record it in a graphic organizer. Friday students will complete that task and start answering questions from the same site.

On level classes used a worksheet to answer questions concerning the state budget.

Tuesday Nov 29th

Students in all classes will complete the budget analysis in the computer lab. Students will then complete the graphic organizer of how a bill passes through the state legislature. This will be completed in class Wed. Also, all classes will start the Cornell notes part 2 (juvenile justice, local govt). They are posted below for students who want their own copy.

Wed nov 30th

All students should complete all Cornell Notes no later than class Friday. All classes will have a quiz on state govt. (3 branches) on Monday the 5th. The power point note responses are posted below and were covered in class with all classes.

Tuesday Dec 6

All classes took a quiz monday which will be returned today. Allc lasses will work in class on the acrostic worksheet and their cornell notes on juvenile justice and local govt. AC classes should complete all cornell notes by Thursday. On level by Friday.We will have our next quiz on government early next week.

Friday Dec 9

All classes reviewed notes from our final topics in government. We will take I-Respond benchmark tests Monday and Tuesday (no grade) and have our final unit quiz on Wednesday (juvenile justice/local govt). The Unit3 test on government (federal, state and local) is scheduled for next Friday Dec. 16. Students should be looking over their notes every other night at this point. No written homework over the weekend.

 Tuesday Dec 13

All classes have a quiz Wednesday on juvenile justice and local government. Unit test Friday. The study guide that was handed out in class is due Friday and counts as 10% of the Unit test grade.

Unit 2: Revolution in Georgia

Monday Oct 3

All classes began our examination of the American Revolution and Georgia's role in it. All classes began taking Cornell Notes on this topic in class today. the notes are posted below. They are due beginning of class Wednesday. approximately 20 minutes will be alloted in class Tuesday to work on these notes.

 Wednesdat Oct 5th

All classes should complete all pages of the notes on American Revolution before class Thursday (that includes the summary questions). We reviewed a portion of these notes today. We will have a quiz early next week on this material.

Friday Oct 7th

All classes will complete the political cartoon analysis today. (this counts as a grade in on-level classes and will be completed in class) All classes will begin work on the illustrated timeline project (due beginning of class Tuesday). All classes will have a quiz on the American Revolution and Georgia's role next Tuesday.

Tuesday Oct 18

All students should complete textbook note questions on the Articles of Confederation (if they have not already). All classes will be taking notes on early government (1777-1789) in class. Students review notes and vocabulary at least every other night.

 Monday Oct 24

Tuesday Oct 25

All classes are taking a quiz today. The unit test on the American revolution and the constitution is Thursday (1754-1789). Students should review the cornell notes on the Revolution, the note questions on the Articles of Confederation, the Compare and Contrast paragraphs plus any notes from class. AC students are also responsible for the map of colonial America (states, cities, regions).

Wed Oct 26

Unit 2: The Colonization of Georgia

Thursday September 1

We started a new unit in all classes today. This unit will cover  chapters 3-5 in the book and will include prehistoric Indains, the colonization of Georgia by Oglethorpe and the American Revolution.

Today all classes (AC and on level) took the unit pretest and all classes were assigned unit vocabulary. Students are required to complete any vocabulary terms that can be found in the textbook for homework. We will define the other terms (not in the text) in class Friday.

Friday Sept 2

AC classes started taking notes on prehistoric people using a graphic organizer. They also saw their unit 1 test grades which I will post as soon as possible. There is no written homework assignment over the long weekend.

On level classes completed a reading guide on barter economics. There is no written homework assignment for the weekend.

Tuesday Sept 6

AC classes continued note taking from Chapter 3 on prehistoric Indians.This should be finished by beginning of class tomorrow. The barter economy worksheet should also be completed by Wednesday. We will have a quiz on Friday on the unit vocabulary, prehistoric peoples and the economics of the barter system.

On level classes (2,3) watched a video on the southeastern indians today and continued note taking using their graphic organizer. We will have a quiz Friday on the unit vocabulary we have reviewed, prehistory, and the barter economics worksheet.

Wed Sept 7

All classes reviewed the notes on prehistory. Students need to complete the Transitions Organizer we started in class.

Thursday Sept 8

All classes have a quiz tomorrow on the Unit vocabulary, the prehistoric Indian notes, and the Barter worksheet. Students should prepare tonight.

AC classes began a Desoto poster project that is due the beginning of class Tuesday Sept 13th.

Wed Sept 14th

Monday Sept 19

All classes participated in a partial review of the Cornell Notes on the founding of Georgia. This will conclude tomorrow. AC students should make sure the colonial maps are complete. These students (AC) will be responsible on the next test for the information on the map. The power point on the founding of Georgia has been posted. There is no written homework assignment for Tuesday.

Wednesday Sept 21

All classes worked in the computer lab today on the recruiting poster project. this document can  be downloaded below. The poster is due by end of class Friday. Students will have access to the computers and class time Thursday and Friday.

 Monday Sept 26

Students in all classes finished and printed their colonial recruiting posters today.

AC students worked on colonial plays which will be finished in class tomorrow and performed Wednesday. We will have a quiz Thursday/Friday on Savannah so students should continue to review their notes. Their was no written homework assignment.

2/3rd periods worked on colonial era math after printing. Math worksheets shoud be brought back to class Tuesday. There is no written homework assignment but students should review there notes nightly  as we have a quiz scheduled for the end of the week.

Wednesday 9-28

AC classes worked on review questions going back to the first week of shcool. Then worked on colonial plays which are to be performed Thursday. We have a quiz scheduled for Friday on the exploration and colonization of Georgia.

On level classes answered review questions and completed their math in the social studies assignment. We have a quiz scheduled for Friday on the exploration and colonization of Georgia.

Monday August 22

We are scheduled to have our first quiz on Thursday Aug. 25. (Both AC and on-level). The quiz will cover all materials we have reviewed or covered thus far-but there will not be any mapwork on this quiz (unlike the unit test we will take next week). Students should have completed their Unit 1 notes on the geography of Georgia before coming to class on Tuesday.

Tuesday August 23

We are still scheduled to take our first quiz this Thursday. All students should have completed defining the vocabulary terms before class Wednesday. A copy of the completed Unit 1 notes which were reviewed in class by me are included below.

Friday August 26

I enjoyed meeting all of the parents who attended open house! It was a great start to the year. Our Unit test on Geography of Georgia is scheduled for Wednesday August 31. Be sure to know the map component. AC classes also have a short essay on Georgia's transportion infrastructure due the same day (Wednesday). There was no written homework assignment due for Monday. Pinnacle is supposed to go live today-I may get quiz grades and word wall posters in today but it may be this weekend. Finally, I am allowing for "grade adjustment" (raising the grade) on this quiz if the result was below 80. I don't do this very often but the instructions are posted below. The essay instructions and the graphic organizer we worked on in class are also posted. I will provide a rubric on Monday. Be sure to bring the organizer back to class Monday. Have a great weekend.

Monday August 26th.

Textbook contract was filled out, transportation graphic proganizer was completed by most students, AC students worked on rough draft of short essay (due WEd.), All classes saw two short videos on transportation.

I was glad to see several students taking advantage of the grade adjustment opportunity in both the AC and on level classes. Remember that we have a unit test this Wednesday in all classes. The Advanced content classes have the transportation essay which is also due on Wednesday. All classes have the tranportation graphic organizer also due Wednesday.

Tuesday August 30

AC Classes Answered review questions, and worked on their transportation essays which are due tomorrow. We also have a unit test tomorrow (Wednesday) on the geography of Georgia. Make sure you know your maps. There will not be a word bank on the maps for AC classes.

On level classes answered different unit review questions and worked on their transportation graphic organizers. 2nd period turned in their organizers today. 3rd period students need to finish it if they didn't do so in class and turn in Wednesday. On level classes also have a unit test Wednesday. Make sure you know the map work. FYI: Their will be word bank for the 35 items on the map.

Wednesday, August 31

All classes took the Unit 1 test today. AC classes turned in the transportation essay. 3rd period turned in the transportation graphic organizer. All students should read p.68-83 for homework.
